Bareilly | An evening rich in colour, culture, and creativity unfolded at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University as it hosted a grand cultural programme to mark Gujarat Foundation Day.
Organised under the inspiration of Governor Anandiben Patel and the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh, the event celebrated India’s unity in diversity through a vibrant showcase of Gujarati traditions. Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that Gujarat Day represents not just the formation of a state but also the spirit of cultural harmony that binds the nation.
The programme began with a Saraswati Vandana and a welcome address by Cultural Centre Coordinator Dr. Jyoti Pandey. The university’s dance club set the tone with an energetic Garba performance, followed by traditional folk dances presented by alumni, captivating the audience.
A highlight of the evening was a short theatrical performance depicting the spiritual legacy of Dwarka and Lord Dwarkadhish. A touching portrayal of the friendship between Krishna and Sudama left the audience emotional and deeply engaged.
Musical performances by the Music Club, led by Aparna Mishra on harmonium and dholak, added to the festive atmosphere with soulful Gujarati songs. The event also featured an engaging fashion show, blending traditional Gujarati attire with modern styles. Notably, international students from Nigeria impressed the audience with a creative presentation inspired by the Kutch region.

Dean of Student Welfare Prof. P.B. Singh lauded the participants, noting that such cultural events play a vital role in students’ holistic development. Cultural Coordinator Dr. Jyoti Pandey highlighted the importance of cultural platforms in fostering cross-cultural understanding, especially with active participation from international students.
Faculty members, including Prof. Archana Gupta, who shared her experiences of Gujarat’s culture and work ethos, and Prof. Sumitra Kukreti, praised the students’ efforts. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Inderpreet Kaur.
The programme witnessed the presence of senior faculty, officials, and students, with smooth anchoring by Akshita Parashari and support from student volunteers, making it a memorable celebration of culture and unity.
